In their own words.
A very late first day.
Dear you,
I was fifty-eight on my first day of swimming lessons. The other adults arrived with matching goggles and caps. Mine were borrowed from my grandson and had a small shark on the side.
The instructor asked what I wanted to learn. I told her I wanted to stop pretending I preferred sitting on the beach. She nodded as though she heard that every morning. Perhaps she did.
I put my face in the water for three seconds. That was the whole lesson, as far as I was concerned. On the bus home, I texted my grandson. He sent back six swimming emojis.
